Cruising past...

One of the rare high school meet ups which I attended was at Cruise Bar. Rare because even though it does get organised from time to time, I always find myself double booked on those events, most memorable being the day when I met Nobuo Uematsu. That day coincided with a high school meet up.... and the other being during the kpop concert. Much as I love my high school friends, I couldn't reject the opportunity to meet THE composer of all times, nor could I rip up that $90 ticket which my brother bought me for the kpop concert.

So this time, we all got dressed up and headed to Cruise Bar.

The lighting has been adjusted for these photos, but because of that, it's all grainy. Bad lighting. You know how restaurants love to dim down the lights just for that romantic feel? It's actually also known to reduce appetite, so all maccas are brightly lit up. This was their seared beef salad: snow pea leaves, cherry tomatos, cucumber, toasted sesame and ponzu sauce. I love ponzu sauce salads. If there's anything to make me eat healthy, it's ponzu sauce.

Grilled king salmon, miso eggplant and steamed soy beans. J.L.'s choice of main, which I stole a bit of as well. Good to share!

Muched raved about, this dish of new potatoes with truffle and parmesan.  I couldn't taste the truffle nor the parmesan very much.

M.S' choice of main: harissa rubbed junee lamp rump, tajine cooked with Moroccan spices and herbs, couscous and flat bread. I'm not a big fan of couscous, and verdict wasn't great for this dish...

Thanks, BT for this photo. This was M.F's choice of main, but it was far away from my side of the table so I passed my camera over so BT could take that side of the table's dishes for me. 250gm certified black angus fillet, celeriac remoulade, steak fries, watercress and red wine sauce. If anyone knows M.F., he doesn't eat very much, so this dish was pretty much polished off by our side of the table within a minute when he claimed he was done with it...

BT's chilli crab linguine, fresh cooked pasta with blue swimmer crab, chilli, chives, lemon and lemon oil.

With her cocktail.... I forgot which one. Not very good at remembering alcohol stuff.

House leaf salad.

My choice of main! Herb roasted whole baby barramundi, shredded fennel and orange salad, citrus butter. I'm a fan of fennel now, Rise did a really good job with the pickle fennel that went well with the sashimi... it went really well with this  barramundi as well, save the cilantro... everything else was good.

F.L's ocean perch fillets, fried with a James Squire batter, pea puree and crunchy chips. When I see fish and chips now, I think of Mohr Fish... and their home made tartar sauce...

Overall, it was a great catch up, we spent quite a long time in that restaurant which had a great ambiance... dim lights, quite atmosphere, attentive staff that weren't overly attentive, food was alright, cost... let's not talk about that... I'm not sure if I'd go back there personally, but there's nothing to really fault about this place. It just doesn't really stand out, other than its location really, being right at the wharf terminals at Circular Quay.

At least I can say I've tried that place now, it's one of those restaurants where you just cross it off the list to say you've been there, and then look for new places to go next time.
